Diablo 4 patch 3.3.0 testing centers on the cost of Alchemist transmutes, Greater Temper attempts, and Tyrael's Boons changes. Ordinary play supplies the gold for a controlled test, while D4 Gold is a separate option for players planning beyond the test period.
Set up a clean PTR record
The Public Test Realm window runs from October 27 at 10 a.m. PDT to November 3 at 10 a.m. PST. Patch the PTR client, create a fresh test character, and copy a character with a completed campaign if that option is available. World tier progression matters for access to Tyrael's Boons and endgame crafting stations.
Before visiting a vendor, record your gold, Obducite, Scrolls of Restoration, and Forgotten Souls. Save screenshots and timestamp your notes after each session; a server reset can remove test characters, and PTR values may change before release.
Measure the transmute discount
Trash for Treasure reduces Alchemist transmute costs by a stated 30%, but the useful test is which parts of each recipe receive that reduction. At the Alchemist, inspect the Forgotten Souls, Obducite, and Scrolls of Restoration paths separately and record each displayed gold fee, material input, and output.
Collect a full inventory of rare and legendary items and record the vendor sale value before committing any of them. Compare that potential gold with the materials obtained through the Alchemist, keeping the two routes separate: once items are sold, the same items cannot also be used for the other route.
For each transmute, compare your balances before and after the confirmation. A lower displayed gold fee does not establish that material inputs are also discounted. If the recipe lacks an earlier price for comparison, record the current cost rather than treating the 30% reduction as verified.
Track every Greater Temper attempt
Greater Temper upgrades a Tempered Affix into a Greater Affix and is stated to cost 30 Scrolls of Restoration plus 1,000 Obducite per attempt. At the crafting station, inspect the recipe and its confirmation cost before committing resources, then check the affix result and remaining balances afterward.
Record starting Scrolls, starting Obducite, the result, and remaining stock for each attempt. Also check for a gold fee rather than assuming there is none. A failed result may still consume the stated materials, so stop when the remaining stock is below either requirement instead of clicking through another confirmation.
Convert the materials spent into an effective gold cost using the transmute prices you recorded. Keep direct gold fees separate from the value of materials; cheaper gold fees alone do not prove that repeated attempts are sustainable.
Check Boons fees and War Plans income
Tyrael's Boons assigns points across four paths, with a stated pool of 132 points and an unassign fee of 5,000,000 gold per point. At that fixed rate, removing all 132 points would cost 660,000,000 gold. Verify the displayed fee and one actual deduction before considering a larger reset.
In the Boons interface, select an assigned point and inspect the unassign confirmation. After confirming, check that the point is available again and compare the gold balance with the displayed charge. Repeat with a second assigned point to see whether its position changes the price, and record each path separately; do not assume an unassigned point can incur a fee.
War Plans Tactics has a Gold reward node with up to three points. Record the gold payout for a completed activity at one, two, and three points, then compare the results using the same activity where possible. Divide the gold earned during a timed session by its duration to estimate hourly income, and compare that figure with the Alchemist costs.
Marks of Wisdom have a stated cap of 20. Watch the displayed total as activities finish and record what happens to any excess. If the counter stops rising, do not assume extra Marks are stored; that distinction can change the value of another activity run.
Run three complete cycles
Use a repeatable sequence: complete activities for gear and Marks, record sale values, sell the items chosen for gold, and use the remaining resources for the relevant transmutes. Finish each cycle with a Greater Temper attempt when you have enough Scrolls and Obducite.
After three cycles, calculate net gold change and material consumption. Separate gold earned from activities from gold spent at the Alchemist, and note any material stock carried into the first cycle. A negative gold balance change on each cycle signals that the process needs another source of income or fewer attempts.
Before the PTR closes, return to the Alchemist with your notes and verify the current recipe costs once more. Then compare your recorded gear needs with d4 gear for sale separately from the PTR results, and keep the test figures marked as provisional.
