Season 12 has produced some odd Barbarian setups, but this Hammer of the Ancients version with Melted Heart of Selig is the one that really catches people off guard. On paper, it looks wrong. You give up most of your life, then trust your Fury bar to keep you alive. That sounds like a mistake until you see it in action. If you've been farming for the right pieces or checking cheap Diablo IV Items, this is one of those builds that completely changes how you think about defense. You're not trying to be a normal tank here. You're trying to stay full on resource, because resource is your real safety net.
Why low life actually works
The entire build starts with Melted Heart of Selig. The amulet cuts your maximum life by 75%, which would normally be awful, but then it shifts incoming damage onto Fury instead. That trade is the whole trick. As long as your Fury stays high, you can soak hits that would flatten most characters. The moment it empties, though, it's over fast. Your health pool is tiny, and there's no hiding that. That's why stacking extra life sounds smart but usually hurts the setup. It weakens the interaction that makes Selig so strong in the first place. Damage comes from the same place as your defense

Stay full, hit hard, stay alive, hit even harder. After a few runs, you'll notice the build doesn't feel clunky at all. It feels tight, almost reckless, but in a good way.
Keeping Walking Arsenal rolling
This setup isn't a lazy one-button Barbarian. You've got to move, swap, and keep your sequence clean. Frenzy builds Fury quickly with dual-wield weapons. Ground Stomp buys breathing room and sets up pressure. Steel Grasp pulls enemies where you want them, which matters more than people think. Then HotA lands with your two-handed bludgeon and does the real work. To get the most out of it, you need Walking Arsenal active across all three weapon types. That means working in a slashing weapon skill too, not just for damage, but to keep the buffs alive. When you get the rhythm right, the payoff is huge: attack speed, damage, and Unstoppable all rolling together. Mess it up, though, and the build feels noticeably more fragile.
What it feels like in real play
In actual endgame content, this Barbarian plays fast and a little tense, especially at first. You can't drift through fights half-awake. You need a clean opener, some Fury in the bank, and enough confidence to stay on top of the pack. Once that clicks, the build starts to feel almost unfair in Nightmare Dungeons and boss fights. It rewards sharp timing instead of passive toughness, and that's a big part of its appeal.
